Why the sites are not interchangeable

Sites in a working network have different jobs. Treating them as interchangeable general warehouses is what produces duplicated slow-moving stock in every location and fast-moving stock in none of the useful ones.

The clusters these sites sit in demand genuinely different operations. An assembly-weighted belt like Chakan is constrained by sequencing and line-side accuracy. A distribution cluster like Bhiwandi is constrained at the delivery end, by metropolitan windows rather than by warehouse throughput. A fulfilment operation is constrained by pick accuracy and by the returns wave that follows a promotion. The same building, staffed the same way, would perform badly at two of those three.

So the useful question when scoping work across more than one location is not which site is closest, but which site should serve which demand - and whether stock in one is visible and allocatable from another. Serving demand from the location that holds stock rather than the location that owns the account is where most of the service improvement in a multi-site network actually comes from.
